The 1.92" of rain that fell the past 3 days came from the remants of Tropical Storm Dennis. 16: Cool with steady rains, mainly during the morning, from the western fringes of Hurricane Floyd. Tremendous amounts of rain fell over the eastern portion of the state, with upwards of 12 inches in some areas east of the Chesapeake Bay! Only .58" rain fell here. 18: Cool this morning low 39 F. 22: Cool low 37 F. High only 58 F. 29: Rain developed during the afternoon with a brief downpour late this evening and gusty winds. Rain ended right around midnight with .94" falling today. Summary: September brought more welcome rains from the remnants of two tropical systems and several cold fronts. The remnants of Dennis dropped 1.92" on the 4th-6th, while the remnants of Floyd clipped the area with a mere .57". Rainfall totals increased exponentially to the east with parts of the state reporting a foot of rain! Temperatures meanwhile were below normal with a lack of extremes.
