Mainly moderate with about .70" by 1pm. Breezy with E winds gusting 20+ mph. Heavy and steady downpours all afternoon as Fran took dead aim on the area. Already about 3.5" by 6:20pm and 4.5" by 9:30pm. Showers and gusty winds continued through midnight. An incredible 5.20" of rain fell today and was the heaviest on record. Some parts of the county reported six to eight inches of rain! Severe and widespread flooding of rivers and creeks caused around a million $ damage in the county and a Federal Disaster area declaration for the second time this year 9: Thunderstorms north of station this evening, thunder but no rain. 12: Late-evening thunderstorm, heavy rain .48" by midnight. 13: Rain heavy at times overnight another .73" fell 16: Cool with steady rain heavy at times from Pacific tropical system Fausto, 1.28" for the day. 17: More rain and drizzle, .36", storm total 1.64" 22: Evening thundershower .27" of rain 26: Cool low 38 F this morning 28: Steady rains throughout the day .71" of rain fell Summary: An active tropical weather pattern brought record rains to the area. Hurricane Fran's 5.20" deluge on the 6th was the heaviest on record. This caused severe flooding throughout the area. Fausto brought another 1.64" on the 16th-17th. A few other heavy showers and thunderstorms completed a very active weather month. September's total was 9.87", the heaviest on record. Temperatures were relatively cool with some warm day the first half of the month. There were many cool nights, especially during the 2nd half of September. Additional records/notes: 5.20" of rainfall on the 6th sets new all-time daily record. 9.87" is the wettest September on record and 2nd wettest month ever. Mean temperature of 71.1 F ties 1962 for 4th coolest September on record.
