MONTHLY SUMMARY Precipitation returned to above normal in September, continuing the year-long yo-yo precipitation pattern. Every odd month (particularly July) has had above normal precipitation, while every even month except February has had well below normal precipitation. Rain fell frequently - in modest amounts during the first half - mostly early, from the stalled remnant moisture from Tropical Storm Isaac. There were two heavy rain events during the 2nd half of the month - the 18th and 26th-27th. Thunderstorms were observed on 4 days during the month. Temperatures were moderately below normal - with respect to normal, this was the coolest month since January 2011. In general, temperatures followed the expected trend for September - warm at the start of the month and much cooler, more fall-like by the end. All of the first week was warm, with highs in the 70s or 80s every day. On the other hand, all of the final 9 days failed to reach 70. Both max and min temperatures were about equally below normal. No frost was observed, though there were 3 low temperature readings below 40.
