Partial clearing this afternoon. 3: coldest low of the season so far and an early frost with a low of 32F this morning. 4: Light rain & drizzle overnight & through early afternoon only .06" fell. Cool high 53F. 5-13: A quiet weather period was noted with cool nights, mild sunny days and dense AM fog observed 7/7-7/10, light fog on the 11th and dense fog again on the morning of the 12th. STRONG COLD FRONT BRINGS RAIN AND WIND 14: Became mostly cloudy and cooler today. Rain 4-10pm with heavy downpours between 5:30-7pm and gusty winds at times. Total 1.16" rain fell. Skies cleared with strong gusty winds 20-30 mph after 10pm. 15: Some light showers overnight .04" fell. Mostly sunny but cool and very windy today with strong WNW winds gusting 40-50 mph and higher in some areas. Trees and branches were blown down and power outages occured knocking our weather station offline and causing some data to be lost. 17: Cool with heavy overcast all day and light rain 2-8pm .21" fell. 18: Dense AM fog again, became variably cloudy but continued cool. COOL/BREEZY/SHOWERS 21: Windy today as a cold front moves through with WNW winds gusting 25-30 mph. Shower late this evening .03" rain. 22: A few "lake effect" showers overnight and through the morning another .11" fell. Temperatures continued to drop through the evening along with strong WSW breezes. 23: Breezy & blustery with a cool high of 43 F. 24: A good frost this morning and the coldest low of the season so far low 29 F. 25: Warmer with an afternoon high of 62 F. Some increasing clouds towards evening. RAIN 26: Increasing clouds and mild. Light rain began about 2:30 pm and continued through most of the evening total .20" fell by midnight. 27: Couple showers overnight and periods of rain and showers through the morning with lighter rain in the afternoon. Total .54" fell. 30: Chilly low of 32F this morning with frost but a mild mostly clear day high of 65F. 31: Mild again high 70F today and very pleasant with sunshine and scattered high clouds. OCTOBER 2003 SUMMARY October was much quieter than September with much less rain and more sunshine. Temperatures were slightly below average with an early season frost and freeze on the 3rd. Interestingly October was the driest month of 2003 so far but still above the 11-year average from 1992-2002. The highlight of the month was the cold front on the 14th-15th that brought 1.20" rain and damaging winds.
