Some light fog. Breezy around dusk. 2: Early morning rain and wind ended by 9am another .66" fell. Some partial clearing today with light breezes. 3: Light AM frost. Increasing clouds. Rain shower about 1:15pm .06" fell. Clearing skies afterwards. 4: Another .04" rain overnight. Clear, breezy and blustery through the day. 5: Cold low 20 F with heavy frost and clear skies all day. 6: AM frost and a cold low of 22 F. Increasing clouds through the day. Steady rain 9:30pm-midnight .27" fell. 7: Moderate to heavy rains overnight with another inch falling by 7am. Rain of varying intensity all day became more intermittent towards evening. Light fog at times. Breezy late. Total 2.21" rain--heaviest of 1997 so far. 8: Periods of cold rain and drizzle overnight and through 2am with another .44" falling. 9: Cloudy & breezy with periods of light rain bringing another .13". The four-day storm total stands at 3.05 inches. 14: Rain overnight was briefly freezing around midnight .60" fell by 7am. Periods of rain and drizzle through the day total .81" fell. 15: Cloudy and cold with intermittent drizzle and sleet and some snow flurries by late evening. Windy by 10pm. 16: Light snow overnight about 3/4" fell by 7am. Few snow showers during the day and evening another 1/4" fell. 18: Frigid low of 10 F overnight with heavy frost. Clear and sunny and still a bit chilly today. 21: Cloudy and cool. Light rain began about 3:30pm and continued through the evening .29" fell. 22: Light rain and dense fog overnight another .25" fell. Breezy by noon. More drizzle in PM hours another .02" fell. 26: Mostly cloudy & windy with a few showers overnight mixed with sleet and even a bit of lightning & thunder .11" fell. 28: Light rain showers through the morning .12" fell. Some midday sun before heavy clouds moved in by afternoon. 30: Drizzle overnight .02" fell. Steady rain and dense fog all day total .65" fell. Summary: This was the 3rd consecutive November with well below normal temperatures. There were some very chilly temperatures at times with bitter winds. The month was also incredibly wet with 7.61" of rain falling, by far the wettest month of the year. Over five inches fell in the first 9 days, with a Nor' Easter on the 6th-9th bringing over three inches of rain. Additional notes/records 1: Record rainfall 1.46" fell today 7: Daily record rainfall 2.21" fell. 13: Record low max only 30 F. 16: Record low max 37 F. 1.0" snowfall also sets daily snow record. 17: Record low max again high only 32 F. 18: Record low 10 F this morning 19: Record low 17 F 20: Record low 17 F again November 1997 was the 2nd wettest November on record with 7.61" of precipitation. November 1997 was also the 5th coolest on record with a mean temperature of 37.5 F. This completes a string of three consecutive years with very cold Novembers (1995 was 3rd coldest, 37.1 F, and 1996 was the record coldest, 33.5 F). The Fall of 1997 is also the 2nd coldest on record with a mean temp of 49.7 F. The record was set just last year in 1996 (48.3 F).
