MONTHLY SUMMARY Once the clouds, rain and snow associated with Superstorm Sandy finally dissipated at the beginning of November, the region received a much-needed break in the weather. Sunshine was abundant, with several mild sunny days, and consistently cold, frosty nights though no particularly frigid readings. Sub-freezing lows occurred every day from the 13th on, with all readings between 24-32. The area was under the influence of high pressure most of the month, with only a few weak, moisture-starved systems brushing the area. High temperatures in November ranged from a balmy 70 on the 11th to a rather chilly 28 on the 24th. Overall, temperatures were below normal - this was the coldest month with respect to normal since December, 2010. November 2012 marked exactly the 100th month of observations at this station and was the first month with a precipitation total under one inch, with only 0.67" falling. The previous driest month was September 2005 with 1.11" - interestingly, another month that followed a major hurricane event (Katrina). Winter made an appearance during the final week, with several cold, blustery days and a couple of light snow events.
