MONTHLY SUMMARY After a wild finish to October, which included a record early season snowfall, the very active weather pattern abruptly ended during the first two weeks of November. During this time, it was very sunny and tranquil, with above normal temperatures. The warmest air since September moved in just ahead of a cold front that passed through on the 16th. A balmy 74 was recorded on the 14th, and the low of 53 on the 15th set a record high. After a brief cool-down, temperatures continued quite mild through the remainder of the month, with mostly 50s and 60s through the 29th. The final day of November was the coldest, with a high of 42. Still, November wound up as the 2nd warmest month of 2011, with respect to average. In contrast to most of the other 2011 above-normal temperature months, lows were actually closer to (but still above) average, while highs actually contributed more to the positive temperature anomaly, and was a major reversal from October, which had the 5th coolest average max temperature in 64 years of records. Only .03" of precipitation was recorded during the first 2 weeks of November, along with mild, sunny days. A series of weather systems affected the area from the 15th on, nearly bringing precipitation up to, but not quite, the long-term average of 3.25", with 3.09" total precip. All of November's precipitation fell as rain - there was no snow or ice as in October. The most substantial storm event occurred on the 22nd and early on the 23rd, with 1.43" of rain. Thunder was reported in Frostburg during this storm. The month's final rain event was on the 29th. Despite slightly below average November precipitation, the fall of 2011 finished as the 2nd wettest on record with 17.01" of precipitation. The wettest fall was 1996 with 18.02" precip.
