Mid-day shower then several brief showers with some thunder. 8: Light rain 6-9pm and drizzle and fog 9pm-midnight .22" fell. 9: Variably cloudy. Late morning shower dropped .17" rain. 13: Light rain all morning .28" fell. Remained cool and cloudy. Thundershower 7-8pm with frequent lightning. Total .46" rain fell. Foggy during the evening. 15: Thundershower 1-2am .10" rain fell. Windy with falling temperatures during the day. 18: Partly cloudy & much warmer high 83F. Thundershowers this evening with quite a light show and .29" rain. 19: Hot high 89F. Again thundershowers late this evening dropped .23" rain. 21-23: Cold low 34 F each morning. 25: Showers on and off throughout the day with patchy fog. Total rain .68" fell by midnight. 27-29: Again very cold low 34F each morning with some light frost. Evening light rain on the 29th .10" fell. Summary: In spite of numerous showers and thunderstorms precipitation was below normal again in May, and temperatures were also below normal once again. There were some unusually cold nights and temperatures only reached into the 80s on two days. Additional notes/records 8th: Record low of 28 F 23rd: Record low 34 F 27th: Record low 34 F 28th: Record low 34 F again 29th: Low 34 F yet again but not a record this time as a chilly 28 was recorded way back in 1949. May 1997 was the COOLEST MAY ON RECORD with a mean temperature of 54.3 F. The Spring of 1997 was also the COOLEST Spring on record with a mean temperature of 46.4 F.
