DAYS WITH FOG 2 THUNDER 5 HAIL 1 1: Overnight thunderstorms ending around 3am, .89" since yesterday evening. 3-4: A cool light steady rain began late the afternoon of the 3rd and continued through the midday hours of the 4th .63" total rain fell. Both days had record low high temperatures of 55 and 50. 7: Continued very cool high only 51 F. Light rain showers began by mid-afternoon with some heavy downpours during the late evening hours 1.31" of rain set a daily rainfall record (later broken in 1999). 13-14: Cool lows of 39 and 35. 15: Warmer with occasional showers and a brief evening thunderstorm. 17-18: Quite cool again with highs of 56 both days. 22: Warm high 85 F 23: Very warm high 89 F. 24: Warm high 84, very brief mid-afternoon thundershower 25: Variable clouds, warm, humid, line of locally severe thunderstorms from 1-3pm. Small hail, gusty winds, brief heavy rain, thunder for over an hour. Some reports of large hail up to golf balls nearby with scattered wind damage. 26: Brief morning shower, then another round of afternoon thunderstorms .37" fell. 28: Record low 35 F this morning with some scattered frost. 31: Warm high 85 F. MONTHLY SUMMARY May was quite cool. For the first time ever, May was actually cooler than April! After a record-tying 57.0 F mean monthly temperature in April, the pattern changed dramatically with a mean May temperature of 56.8 F, the 3rd coolest May on record. The first half of the month was wet, with much drier conditions the second half. Precipitation ended up below normal, though not excessively so. Some severe weather grazed the area on the 25th, though only some small hail and modest wind gusts were observed at this station.
