Became sunny again by 3pm but continued unseasonably cool with a high of only 48 F. 3: Partly cloudy and continued cool with gusty NW winds. Some light snow was reported on nearby ridges early this morning. 4: Clear and cold overnight with frost. Mostly sunny and slightly warmer this afternoon. 5: Another cold frosty morning low 33 F. Became partly cloudy with N winds gusting to 25 mph. 6: Partly cloudy with high overcast and light NE winds. 7: Clear and calm early, became cloudy with rain 1-2pm .09" fell. Clearing again by dark. 8: Sunny, warmer and breezy. 9: Sunny, warm and breezy. 10: Sunny and warm. Became cloudy by 4pm. Series of localized thunderstorms developed overhead between 6-8pm and produced some heavy downpours .95" fell. 11: AM fog lifted by 10am and became sunny and very warm. Became cloudy by 5pm. Storms threatened but broke up. No rain fell. 12: Cloudy and calm early, then partial clearing with gusty west winds to 25 mph. 13: Cloudy and calm early. clearing with light east winds during the afternoon. 14: Increasing clouds and warmer again with west winds gusting to 20 mph. Few light showers late, only a trace. 15: Early AM showers .15" fell. Then clearing, breezy and slightly cooler this afternoon. 16: Clear early then became mostly cloudy and cool with NW winds gusting to 25 mph. 17: Cloudy AM becoming clear during the afternoon. 18: Clear early with increasing PM clouds and light winds. 19: Cloudy then partly sunny with light SE breezes. Rain 4pm-midnight .46" fell. 20: Rain overnight heavy at times ended by 10am another 1.12" fell for an 18-hour total of 1.58". Became windy after the rain stopped. Continued cloudy and cool through the day. 21: AM mountain fog, then partly cloudy. Brief thunderstorm about 4pm with just a trace of rain. Gusty wind to 20 mph. 22: Fog early, then clear becoming partly cloudy. 23: Light drizzle during the early morning. Light rain began around noon. Heavy showers and thunderstorms around 2pm and again this evening from about 6-9pm with some good downpours at times and NW winds gusting to 25 mph. A total of 1.40" rain fell. 24: Mostly cloudy and continued cool with a few very light showers, trace. 25: Cloudy and breezy with drizzle developing in the afternoon .03" fell. 26: Sunny early then cloudy with light drizzle. South winds around 10 mph gusting to 25 mph. 27: Clear early then partly cloudy, clear again by noon. Light NE breezes. 28: Mostly cloudy with light AM showers starting around 9:00. North winds gusting to 20 mph. 29: Clear and calm early, then partly cloudy with gusty NW breezes, calm again by sunset. 30: Partly cloudy and calm morning. Brief shower about 1pm then sunny and breezy. 31: Early morning fog, then partly cloudy and warmer than yesterday with light winds. SUMMARY: May was a relatively quiet month with below normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. It was the coolest May since 1997, with the mean temperature nearly 9 degrees cooler than last May, which was the warmest on record. The cool weather pattern helped to suppress thunderstorm activity; localized downpours pushed our rainfall total higher than most surrounding stations.
