MONTHLY SUMMARY March 1993 was one for the record books. We experienced record precipitation and snowfall, and the massive blizzard on the 13th-14th was one of the most intense east coast storms in recent history. The month was off to a busy start. Heavy rain, sleet and snow on the 4th-5th totaled 2.77" and 3.3" of snow/ice, causing flooding in the area. The "Superstorm" hit a week later. This storm was not only crippling, but brought in record or near-record cold temperatures for an entire week. Heavy rains on the 23rd caused more minor flooding in the area. Temperatures rebounded somewhat after this storm, but two more weather systems added to the monthly precipitation total that set a new March record with a whopping 8.49 inches. 25.8" of snow fell, the 2nd snowiest March on record behind 1962 (27"). Temperatures were certainly on the chilly side, with the coldest weather during the middle of the month, but a late-month rebound prevented a record cold month. Obviously March was extremely busy!!! Additional notes/records 4: Daily record precipitation 2.39". 2nd heaviest March precip day ever. 13: ALL-TIME daily record snowfall of 20.5".
