Rain developed by 4pm and continued through the evening .54" fell by midnight. 2: Rain from yesterday evening ended predawn, another .35" fell for a storm total of 0.89". Clearing during the morning and became windy with W gusts to 30 mph. 3: Cloudy this morning with a brief shower at 8am. Became partly cloudy and breezy with falling temperatures and a few light snow showers this evening. 4: Partly cloudy, windy and cold with a few light snow showers. 5: Partly cloudy, windy and cold with gusts to 30 mph. Occasional snow showers. 6: Mostly sunny and cold high only 28 F with breezy and blustery conditions. HEAVY SNOW 7: Steady snow began early this morning and was measured at 2.5" at 7am. Snow continued moderate to heavy at times before tapering off around 3pm. A total of 8.3" fell, making it the heaviest day of the 2006-2007 season so far. Cold with a high of 32 F and clearing skies this evening. RECORD COLD? 8: A very cold morning with clear skies. The low at this station was 9 F but a MesoWest station 1 mile to the east and slightly lower in elevation reported 2 F, which would have shattered the all-time March record low of 6 F set in 1993 and 1999. Remained sunny all day with a high of 38 F. 9: Cold low 17 F then mostly sunny and milder high 50 F. 10: Clear and calm early then becoming cloudy this afternoon with some light rain around 4pm. 11: Mostly sunny and breezy at times. 12: Clear early becoming partly cloudy by 9am. Mild high 69 F. 13: Partly cloudy and mild with a high of 75 F. 14: Partly cloudy, mild and calm with increasing clouds during the afternoon and a few light showers around 4pm. 15: Cloudy with a period of moderate SE breezes around 11am. Occasional light rain began around 2pm. Temperatures dropped during the evening. 16: Snow began before dawn and continued moderate to occasionally heavy and mixing with sleet at times. Fog on mountains. Snow tapered off to flurries and light snow showers late this evening, a total of 6.8" fell. 17: Early snow showers, then partly cloudy, cold & windy. West winds gusting to 30 mph. 18: Partly cloudy, breezy and cold with NW gusts 20+ mph. 19: Sunny early, becoming cloudy by 9am. Intermittant light rain began 3pm and tapered off late evening .10" fell. MILDER (SPRING ARRIVES ON TIME!) 20: Cloudy early, then becoming mostly sunny and milder high 61 F. N breezes at 10 mph. 21: Fair and chilly overnight, then mostly cloudy, milder, calm wind. 22: Partly cloudy with moderate W breezes during the afternoon. Increasing afternoon clouds with a few sprinkles. Mild high 75 F. 23: Cloudy with occasional rain and drizzle through the day and evening. 24: Rain continued overnight another .64" fell by 7am. Fog on mountains this morning. Partial clearing the afternoon. 25: Sunny this morning becoming partly cloudy this afternoon with light W breezes. 26: Partly cloudy, mild, calm. 27: Partly cloudy and warm high 80 F. Brief shower this morning about 9am and a passing gusty thunderstorm this afternoon around 4pm with N winds gusting to 30 mph. 28: Partly cloudy, mild & calm. 29: Sunny, mild & pleasant. 30: Clear and cold this morning low 30 F then sunny and warm with a spectacular rebound to 77 F this afternoon. 31: Mostly cloudy & mild. SUMMARY: March was slightly milder and wetter than normal. There was quite a range of temperatures throughout the month. The first 8 days were quite cold with temperatures reaching single figures on the 8th. On the other hand, the latter third of the month was quite mild and included a high of 80 on the 27th. Despite the relatively mild temperatures, two major winter storms (7th and 16th) pushed snowfall above normal and made this the snowiest March since 1999 (which was my snowiest on record with 29 inches).
