Occasional flurries but little additional accumulation. (Note: A total of 7.5" snow fell on 2/28). 2: Flurries and light snow showers overnight. Cold, windy, and blustery with mostly sunny skies. 4: Cold low 12 F. Mostly sunny & milder but increasing PM clouds. Light evening snow 0.2" fell. 5: Dense AM fog, then mostly sunny. 7: Partly cloudy becoming overcast by 2pm with light west breezes. Very mild high 62 F. 8: Falling temperatures overnight and through the day with very light rain showers turning to light snow showers. Very windy with NW gusts 40+ mph. 9: Light AM snow showers, then partly cloudy, breezy, cold. 10: Periods of light snow midnight-6am 0.5" fell. Cold low 16 F. Clear then high clouds after 3pm. 11: Mostly cloudy. Some light snow showers but little accumulation. 12: Mostly cloudy & breezy with occasional snow showers. 14-15: Clear, sunny days. Cold mornings and mild afternoons with light west breezes. 18: Mild high 61 F after cold low 26 F. Sunny then partial clouds in the afternoon 19: Another cold night & mild afternoon with a high of 60 F and thickening clouds. 23: Steady rain began overnight and continued through the day. Calm winds with fog on the mountains. Also cooler high 45 F. A total of 1.16" rain fell today. 24: Cloudy with AM fog & drizzle then some hazy sun by mid-afternoon and breezy 25: Light rain began around 10am .12" fell. 26: Cloudy with fog on the mountains and drizzle all day. 27: Cloudy again with PM showers .48" fell. HEAVY RAIN/FLOODING 28: Rain began overnight and continued through the day heavy at times especially this evening with even a bit of thunder in the area. Rain tapered off around midnight. A total of 2.05" fell today. Quite a bit of flash flooding was reported in the area with flooded basements, several roads closed and evacuations in the Locust Grove area. 29-30: Became sunny, mild & pleasant both days. 31: Continued mild and pleasant. SUMMARY: The first half of March was more like January with frequent light snows, unseasonably cold temperatures and fierce winds. Temperatures began to moderate during the second half of the month. The first three weeks were extremely dry with only 0.10" precipitation falling. However nearly four inches of rain fell in a six-day period from March 23-28 causing some flooding in the area.
