A much stronger storm between 3:30-4pm moved in rapidly from the SW and dumped torrential rains, high wind gusts 30-40 mph (locally higher) and very intense frequent lightning. 1.19" rain fell in only 30 minutes. Scattered tree damage reported in the area. On the anniversary of the F4 Frostburg Tornado, another severe storm hit the area. June 2nd has had severe thunderstorms and/or heavy rains in 4 of the past 5 years. 7-9: Hot with highs in the low 90s and high humidity. 17: Rain, mainly during the morning, .43" fell. 18-19: Cool morning lows of 44 and 43. 26: Hot high 92 F. 27: Hot high 93 F. Brief localized evening shower. 28: Localized brief heavy showers around midday .45" fell. Summary: June was an exceptionally quiet weather month. There were some rather hot periods but some cool temperatures thrown in. The only notable event was the strong storm on the 2nd which brought high winds and over an inch of rain in 30 minutes. Precipitation was below normal, with above normal temperatures. Additional notes/records: 19: Record low for the date 43 F. 28: Record high min 70 F. Low of 71 on the 29th was 2 degrees shy of the record 73 in 1959.
