There was only a very brief burst of heavy rain .02" fell. The extreme lightning ended almost as abruptly as it began as the storm moved WNW, prompting severe storm and flood warnings in Somerset Co. PA. I have never seen anything like it. The rest of the day was partly cloudy, hot and humid but no rain or storms. Radar estimated up to 5 inches of rain in the area. MONTHLY SUMMARY June 1995 was a warm, humid, and exceptionally wet month with severe storms and flash flooding at the beginning and especially towards the end of the month. 12 days had thunder. The first round of severe weather hit the area on the 2nd with hail, damaging winds and flooding. Temperatures were consistently warm throughout the month, peaking at a hot 93 on the 20th. After a dry stretch, the area was deluged from the 23rd on, with over 5 inches of rain falling at this station and locally much higher amounts that caused massive flooding, particularly on the 27th and 30th. Big storms also hit LaVale/Cumberland on the 25th and 26th. Precipitation totaled a whopping 7.38", the second wettest June on record, only behind 1972, when Hurricane Agnes flooded the area with 9.43" of rainfall. This was very reminiscent of June 1989, when numerous big storms hit the area with hail, wind damage and severe flooding in parts of the county.
