New 62-year precip record for June 4th set 1.17" surpassing the .95" record set just last year. 9: Severe thunderstorms passed north & south of station. The extreme SW portion of the county near McCoole/Keyser WV reported 3/4" diameter hail. More severe storms hit the extreme NE tip of the county before producing severe hail and damaging winds in Washington Co. 10: A localized strong thunderstorm from 2-3pm with heavy downpours and frequent lightning. 17: Steady rain through the day then a series of strong thunderstorms in the area this evening. The SW part of the county was under severe storm and flash flood warnings due to training thunderstorms late this evening. A 62-year June 17 rainfall record of 1.96" was set today. 20: Some mild thunderstorms this morning, partial clearing, then a series of showers and storms late this evening from about 9-11pm with brief heavy downpours .73" rain fell today. 24-26: Three consecutive days in the 90s, first 90-degree readings since April 28th. MONTHLY SUMMARY The wetness of May continued through the first two-thirds of June with nearly all of the month's rainfall in the first 20 days. The first two-thirds of the month were also quite cool, with a low of 44 on the 1st, then record low max temperatures on the 4th-5th as a developing East Coast system brought heavy rains totaling 1.75". Highs both days were only 56. Temperatures finally felt like summer during the final week, with highs reaching the 90s on the 24th-26th, the warmest readings since the record heat in late April. Temperatures were still below normal by 1 degree. Many weather systems affected the area, the most substantial being the aforementioned East Coast storm on the 4th-5th and another system on the 17th that brought tremendous thunderstorms and severe flash floods to Pittsburgh, PA, before heading southeast and dumping 1.96" of rain within 24 hours on our backyard. Flash flooding was reported to our SW around Keyser WV, where 3.60" was reported. Also, on the 9th, severe hail hit the southwest and northeast ends of the county.
