Surprise thunderstorm developed overhead around 4pm dropping a quick .63" of rain in only 15 minutes. 3-7: A very hot stretch with highs well into the 90s, lows in the upper 60s to mid 70s and oppressive humidity and heat indeces nearing 110 F. 9: Hot high 93 F. 16-17: Very hot and humid highs 96 and 97 F. 22: Very hot high 95 F low 72 F. 23: Very hot and humid high 98 F. 24: Hot and humid high 94 F. Two strong lines of thunderstorms split as they approached from the WNW and only .08" rain fell. 28-29: Evening thunderstorm on the 28th and overnight thunderstorm on the 29th, .46" total rainfall. 30: Hot high 95 F. 31: Record heat high 100 F with a very brief afternoon thunderstorm. 104 F was recorded in Cumberland. Summary: July 1999 was incredibly hot and dry. This was probably the hottest month ever on record with a mean maximum temperature of 90.5 F and 21 days reaching 90 or higher. Thunderstorms dodged the area on multiple occasions. Only 1.31" rain fell, making it the driest July on record so far. Additional notes/records 4: Record high min temperature 70 F this morning 5: Record high 97 F. Low was 74 F also setting a record high. 7: Another record high min temperature 71 F. 12: Record low max with a high of 73. 17: Record high 97 F. 23: Very hot high 98 F but missing the record 101 F set in 1991. 31: RECORD HIGH 100 F. Hottest reading of 1999 and highest temperature since July 15, 1995. July 1999 was the HOTTEST JULY AND MONTH EVER ON RECORD with a mean temperature of 77.2 F, just beating the old record of 77.1 F in 1988. 21 days were in the 90s, setting a new record.
