No measurable rain fell during this stretch either, although some very heavy thunderstorms passed SE of the area on the evening of the 6th with 2 hours of thunder and 1-2 inches of rain in areas. Also on the 6th, a low of 71 set a new daily high. 12: Monthly high min temperature of 72 F was the second of 3 daily high mins. 26: After a 3 1/2 week stretch with a meager .02" of rainfall, a strong afternoon thunderstorm brought brief heavy rain and pea-sized hail with some gusty winds as well. It was the 4th hottest July on record (later bumped down to No. 5 by the record hot July 1999). 15 days were 90 or hotter, with only the first and last day of the month failing to break 80. High humidity made for some rather uncomfortable heat indeces, which broke 100 on several occasions. While only one daily record high was set (28th, 97), it was a consistently hot month. 5 nights also failed to climb below 70, 3 of them setting record high mins. A strong Bermuda High pressure led to extremely dry conditions, with nearly 3 1/2 weeks of virtually no rainfall. Nearly all of the month's rain fell at the beginning of the month and again near the end. Additional notes/records 2nd: 1.47" of rainfall sets new daily record. 6th: Record high min 71 F 9th: High of 97 F just misses record of 98 in 1988. 12th: Record high min 72 F 26: Record high min 70 F. 28: Record high 97 F. July 1993 was the 4th hottest July on record with a mean temperature of 76.6 F.
