DAYS WITH FOG 1 THUNDER 12 DAMAGING WINDS 1 1: An afternoon thunderstorm popped up around 2pm, dropping a quick .22" of rain. 3: Cool high 72 with heavy rain around midday, .78" fell. 5: Brief PM thunderstorm dropped .21" of rain. 10: Warm and humid with a severe thunderstorm clipping the area during the mid- afternoon. Some scattered wind damage in the area, with minor flooding just southwest of this station. 14: Warm and humid high 90 F with an afternoon thunderstorm threatening but only dropping .03" of rain. 17: Brief heavy localized downpour at 1pm, .25" fell. 23: Occasional showers with imbedded thunder. 24: Showers overnight with heavy thunderstorms this morning and again in the late afternoon. Very heavy downpours and intense, close frequent lightning. A daily record of 1.88" of rain fell. 26: Cooler high 74 F with heavy rain late this evening and occasional thunder. Another .94" fell, most of it between 9pm and midnight. 27: Rain tapered to showers overnight. A period of moderate rain with thunder late morning, ending around mid-day. Another .34" of rain, storm total 1.28" 30: An intense thunderstorm clipped this station late this evening. A quick .17" of rain fell here with the brunt of the storm passing just south and east. 31: Occasional brief rain showers .08" fell. MONTHLY SUMMARY After a very cool, dry June, summer returned in July with near-average temperatures despite a lack of any extreme or prolongued heat. July was very stormy, with thunder observed on 12 days and 15 days of measurable rainfall. The bulk of the month's rainfall came from a quasi-stationary front that wavered through the area from the 23rd-27th. 2.24" fell on the 23rd-24th and another 1.28" fell on the 26th-27th (3.52" total). This pushed monthly precipitation well above normal. Cumberland recorded its second wettest July on record with 6.92 inches.
