HAZY/HOT/HUMID/SCATTERED STORMS 4: Hottest day of the year so far high 91F. Brief shower about 2pm .03" rain. Big storms blew up just to the S & E of the station. More showers and storms to the W and S but dissipated as they crossed the mountains. 6: Lightning and thunder overnight about 3-4am. Only .01" rain as strong storms went just to the south & west. More storms this evening by 7:30 pm with strong cells to the W, N and S but only light rain fell at this station as the storms broke up. Total .05" fell. 7: Thunderstorm 1-1:30am .26" rain fell. Continued hot and humid today. Light showers 10pm- midnight as another line of storms dissipated when it hit the mountains. Total .28" rain. 8: Brief storm overnight about 4:15am .08" rain. Almost all of the heavy cells went just to the south & west again. Rain with thunder continued through 9am. Hazy hot and humid again. More storms rolled through this evening with gusty winds. Total rain .37" today. 9: Mostly cloudy. Few brief showers this afternoon. Strong storms blew up barely south & east about 6pm with more showers late this evening. Total rain here only .29" but over 1 inch was reported in Cumberland and nearly 2 inches fell within only a few miles south of this station. 10: A much cooler and cloudy day. Thunderstorms this evening 8-10pm with some heavy downpours at times for a total of .65" of rain. 12: Thunderstorm with brief heavy rain and gusty winds this afternoon about 4:20pm .16" fell in 15 minutes. Rain continued through the early evening hours. Total .26" fell. Hail was reported in the extreme western part of the county. 14: Partly cloudy, warm. Severe storms were headed this way this evening from the SW about 7:30pm but it was the same story as the cells split yet again and went just north & south and not a drop of rain fell at this station. 20: A cool morning low of 53 F. 22: Warmer high of 88 F. Hazy and humid. 23: Cooler with haze and mostly cloudy skies. Strong storms and heavy rains skirted just barely south & east of this station again between 1:30-2:30pm. No measurable rain fell. Another storm between 4:30-5pm produced .23" rain. 25-26: Clear and cool overnight and sunny, pleasant days with low humidity and light breezes. 28: Cool with periods of rain beginning around noon and continuing through most of the afternoon total .31" fell. 31: Another cool, cloudy day. Drizzle began by evening with rain 9pm-midnight .27" fell. JULY SUMMARY July 2003 was a fairly uneventful month with slightly cooler than average temperatures and a lack of any excessive heat. Numerous thunderstorms threatened but the storms repeatedly broke up and almost all of the direct hits missed this station, especially to the south and east.
