Storm total precip 1.16" and 5.3" of snow/ice. 5: Very cold low 4 F high only 16 F. 6: Record low -6 F this morning. Light snow began late this evening but didn't accumulate. 7: Light snow overnight 1.0" fell. 8: Cold with steady snow all day heavy at times another 6.0" snow fell. 9: Light freezing rain overnight .26" fell with a light coating of glaze. 10-11: Cold both mornings with lows of 4 and 8 F. 14: Snow, sleet and freezing rain fell this afternoon and evening - mainly sleet. 1.5" of sleet accumulated by midnight. 15: Heavy sleet and freezing rain overnight. Another 2.5" of sleet and 1/4" to 1/2" of glaze made for an icy mess. A storm total of 4" of ice (sleet/glaze) and 1.53" of precipitation. This was the worst ice storm to hit the area since February 1994. 18: Variable clouds with showers of rain and sleet, 0.5" of sleet accumulation. 23: Heavy downpour this evening followed by lighter rains .70" fell. 24: Light rain overnight another .22" fell. 28: Very mild high 65 F. Summary: January was an active weather month with an abundance of precipitation. There were frequent snow and ice storms during the first half of the month, some of which wreaked havoc on much of the state. Temperatures began quite chilly with one night below zero (6th) then moderated later in the month with one day in the 60s (28th). Additional notes/records 2: Record low max temperature 18 F. Also record snowfall for the date 4.0" fell. 3: Record precipitation for the date 0.81" 5: Record low max again high only 16 F 6: Record low -6 F this morning 8: Record daily snowfall with 6.0" falling, tying the record set in 1988. 28: Record high 65 F. Later this record was broken in 2002 (67 F).
