DAYS WITH FOG 3 SLEET 1 THUNDER 1 HAIL 1 DAMAGING WINDS 1 3-5: Mild with occasional light showers. 13: Mild and sunny with a high of 59 F. 14: Very mild overnight with temperatures steady in the mid-50s. However, a line of severe thunderstorms ripped through at 6:45am with frequent lightning, brief torrential downpours, pea-sized hail and very strong winds gusting 50 to 60 mph. Temperatures dropped rapidly as the front moved through with rain and very strong, damaging winds continuing through mid-morning, bringing down some trees and power lines. Temperatures fell to 22 by midnight with snow flurries observed this evening. 16: Cold high 19 F and low 9 F with light snow overnight totaling 1 inch. 19: Cold low 4 F. 20: Overnight snow showers (1.0") 23: A cold steady rain, with fog and a few ice pellets mixed in this evening. 24: Snow showers, windy and blustery, little accumulation of snow. 25: First significant snow of the season of 3.5" finally falls from a Clipper. MONTHLY SUMMARY January was mild, particuarly during the first half. Precipitation was below normal, as was snowfall. The season's first respectable snow didn't fall until the 25th. The highlight of the month was undoubtedly the surprise severe thunderstorm and damaging wind event on the morning of the 14th, when a sharp cold front plowed through. After a very mild first two weeks, this front brought a pattern change to much more seasonal temperatures, with the coldest weather during the 3rd week following the potent cold front on the 14th. No temperature or precipitation records were set this month.
