MONTHLY SUMMARY January 2008 was a month of variable temperatures and frequent light to moderate precipitation events. Precipitation was near normal, with somewhat above normal temperatures, mainly due to milder than usual overnight minimums. Meanwhile, snowfall was slightly below normal, with a lack of any major accumulations. However, consistently below freezing temperatures from the 14th forward led to a 2-inch or greater snow depth from that point forward. Following a spectacular spring-like warm-up on the 7th and 8th, this seemed like a typical winter month, with lows below freezing from the 12th on (20 consecutive days) and highs below freezing from the 14th-27th (14 consecutive days). A mild ice storm and the month's heaviest precipitation event was followed by a ferocious wind storm near month's end. Other than that event and a surprise thunderstorm on the evening of the 10th, the weather this January was nothing too unusual.
