Light SW breezes. 2: Steady rain began this morning and continued all day mostly moderate. Tapered to drizzle that continued overnight. A total of .78" fell by midnight. 3: Continued cloudy with persistent light rain and drizzle, fog/clouds on mountains. Another .08" rain fell. 4: Drizzle continued with haze and fog, finally lifting during the afternoon. 5: Cloudy, light SW winds, brief periods of light drizzle. 6: Cloudy, light & variable winds, becoming partly sunny after 10am. 7: Cloudy, calm wind. 8: Sunny early becoming partly sunny after 10am, light breezes. 9: Sunny AM, partly cloudy PM. Very mild high 65 F. Gusty west winds to 20 mph this afternoon. 10: Cloudy early, becoming sunny after 9am. 11: Cloudy, hazy. Became partly cloudy during the evening with light rain after 9pm. 0.12" fell by midnight. 14: Rain during the early morning hours and becoming very windy with falling temperatures. NW winds gusted to 40 mph here and topped 50 mph in nearby areas with some tree damage reported. A cold steady rain began around 9pm .25" fell by midnight. 23: Steady cold rain for most of the day, tapered off by mid-afternoon another .70" fell. Fog on mountains, also heavy glaze on trees at higher elevations. 24: Partly cloudy, mild. Cold front came through this evening with strong winds, brief heavy rain turning to sleet and snow showers, even some thunder in the area. 25: Light snow and snow showers continued overnight and through most of the day. Another 1.0" fell. Cold, breezy and blustery. 26: Light AM snow showers gradually tapered off. Continued cold and blustery, partly cloudy. 27: Sunny, milder and pleasant. 28: Sunny, quite mild and pleasant high 62 F. 29: Period of AM rain .20" fell, then became partly cloudy and breezy during the afternoon. Continued mild high 62 F. 30: Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy during the afternoon. Light rain 10pm-midnight .04" fell. 31: Light AM rain .05" fell, then continued cloudy. Became windy during the afternoon with gusts to 30 mph. SUMMARY: Winter seemed to disappear in January. Temperatures were more typical of March than January. It was the warmest January on my records with a mean temperatures of 39.0 F and also the least snowy with only 1.3" falling. It was a wet month with frequent frontal passages, nearly all of which brought rain but not snow. Some thundersnow was observed on the 24th, an unusual event. Additional notes/records 9: Record high 65 F 12: Record high min temp 39 F January 2006 was the 3rd warmest January on record with a monthly mean of 39.0 F. The mean min of 31.5 is a close 2nd to the record warm Jan. 1950. Monthly low 22 is highest for any winter month.
