DAYS WITH FOG 2 SLEET 5 GLAZE 3 2: Cold low 6 and high 29. 3: Cold with an intense snow squall around 1pm dumping 1 to 2 inches of snow in less than a half hour! 2 inches was reported in Cumberland with 1.5" at this station. 8-9: Severe ice storm. Sleet began on the morning of the 8th and became heavy and steady during the evening, mixing with freezing rain. Heavy freezing rain fell overnight on the 9th. Storm total preciptiation was 1.93", with 3.3" of ice and nearly an inch of glaze accumulation. This was one of the worst ice storms in many years. Daily precip record .86" was recorded on the 9th. 10-11: Snow and sleet began late on the 10th with steady snow during the AM hours of the 11th, occasionally mixed with sleet. Another 5.5" of snow and ice accumulation. 19-20: Big warm-up with highs of 61 and 66, respectively. 21: Rain early this morning. 22-23: Heavy snow began late on the 22nd. Very heavy wet snow fell early on the 9th with a total of 9 inches accumulating in only 5 hours! Snow changed to sleet briefly then rain showers during the day. A daily record of 1.70" precipitation fell with 8" of snow/ice. 24: Light rain overnight .23" fell. 25-26: A weak Alberta Clipper brings another 1.5" of snowfall. 27: Cold low 7 high 26 both setting new daily lows for Feb. 27 28: Cold low 8 F this morning MONTHLY SUMMARY The winter of 1993-94 continued its blitz on the area with a couple of major ice and snow storms and except for a dramatic warm-up during the 3rd week, a general continuation of the cold weather pattern that began in late December and continued through January. The ice storm on the 8th-9th was one of the worst in many years, paralyzing much of the Mid-Atlantic. 9 inches of heavy wet snow fell on the 23rd. There were some other nuisance snow/ice events during the month. February was one of the snowiest on record (21 inches) and also ranked 3rd wettest (later bumped to 4th by 1998 which has 5.26"). Additional notes/records 9: Record daily precipition 0.86" fell. Severe ice storm on Feb. 8-9. 11: Daily record low max 24 F, along with 5.5" of snowfall (10th-11th). 23: Record daily precipitation 1.70". 8" of snowfall in 5 hours. 27: Record low 7 F. Record low max also 26 F. February 1994 was the 3rd wettest on record with 5.07" of precipitation. The winter season 1993-1994 was also 3rd wettest with 13.24" of precip.
