DAYS WITH: FOG 9 SLEET 3 GLAZE 1 4th-5th: Steady rain overnight totaled 1.27". The low of 51 on the 5th set a new record high min temperature. 5-7: Mild high 63 F all three days. 9-10: More light steady rainfall with .92" falling. 14: One of only two sub-freezing max temps this month with showers of sleet. 16: Occasional rain mixed with sleet, mainly in the evening. About 0.2" of slush accumulated. 24: Sunny start but became cloudy as a band of light rain and sleet moved in from the east. 31: A cold rain and freezing rain developed after sunset. This rain froze on contact and accumulated about 1/4" to 1/3" of glaze, making for treacherous New Year's Eve travel. MONTHLY SUMMARY December was quite mild throughout with temperatures consistently above normal and only one brief cooldown at about mid-month, when some sleet fell. There was no snow, only a half-inch of total ice accumulation. There was a notable lack of cold weather, and no particularly big storms, although the ice storm that began on New Year's Eve did put a damper on holiday travel. Additional notes/records 5: Record high min 51 F 1994 finished as the snowiest calendar year on record with 71.1". 1994 also finished with the greatest difference between extreme highs and lows (-16 to 99, a 115 degree difference!)
