DAYS WITH FOG 4 4-5: A cool steady light rain all day on both days, storm total 1.32". 10: Predawn rain showers, totaling .46". 11: Cold, windy and blustery with occasional snow showers. 17: An unusual day with fog all day in Cumberland but the fog lifted early here in LaVale and skies were mostly sunny, though temperatures remained in the 30s. 18: Light rain. 20-21: Snow began falling on the evening of the 20th. It melted on contact, but began accumulating as temperatures dropped in the predawn hours of the 21st. The first day of winter began with 3" of wet snow, melting down to .52" of water. 24-30: A stretch of 7 consecutive days with sub-freezing high temperatures. 1.5" of snow fell on Christmas Day (25th) from lake-effect snow squalls. Most other days had flurries. Three consecutive daily low max temps were set (28th-30th). Light snow (1.5") fell on the 28th, with another inch of snow on the 29th-30th. MONTHLY SUMMARY The mild temperatures during the first third of December were more than offset by the consistent cold during the final third, which dragged monthly temperatures to slightly below normal. Precipitation and snowfall were both near normal.
