Despite all the frontal passages, with resulted in well above normal precipitation, temperatures didn't vary significantly and averaged slightly above normal. The season's first significant snow fell on the 5th. Interestingly, December 5th has had heavy snow (>4") in 3 of the last 6 years. There were a couple of nasty ice storms as well. Winds howled on a number of occasions, particularly on the 3rd, 16th and 23rd, when some minor tree and power line damage was reported in the area. Although precipitation wasn't excessive, the 5.14-inch total made it the wettest December in 16 years of records (1992-2007). Additional notes/records 5: 4.5" of snow not a daily record but by coincidence we've had several heavy snows on Dec. 5 lately. 9: 1.06" of precip, just shy of the record 1.14" in 1973. 13: Daily record precipitation 0.76" fell. December 2007 set a new record for lowest mean monthly diurnal temperature range with a 9.0-degree difference between the mean max (39.0 F) and mean min (30.0) temperatures.
