Frostburg weather observer Greg Latta recorded 2.50" of rainfall from a thunderstorm. 17: Occasional showers. Summary: August was the first month in 1998 with below-normal precipitation. In fact it turned out to be the driest August on record so far (since 1992). Scattered thunderstorms soaked nearby areas but narrowly missed this station. As in July, temperatures were near-normal through the month. Additional notes/records 2nd: Record low 45 F this morning 10th: Daily record rainfall 0.93" fell today. Daily record low max 74 F. 20th: Record low 44 F this morning August 1998 was the 3rd driest on record with 1.58" of rainfall.
