Heavy thunderstorms skirted north and west of us all evening. 5: Late-evening thunderstorms finally brushed the area overnight and evolved into a steady rain with cooling temperatures, .80" of rain fell today. 12: Warm high 90 F - only 90-degree day this month. 13: Thunderstorms threatened but only dropped .01" rain. 14: AM showers .17" of rainfall. 16-17: Cool highs in the upper 60s. Steady rain developed shortly before dawn on the 17th and became heavy at times during the afternoon 2.55" fell. The heavy rain came from the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl. 18: A few brief overnight showers with another .06" rain; warmer today high 82 F. 22: A period of steady rain this morning .49" fell. 27: Warm and humid. Heavy AM thunderstorms fell apart as they moved in from the NW. 31: Cooler with a brief late afternoon thundershower, then a period of moderate to heavy rain during the late evening with imbedded thunder. MONTHLY SUMMARY After two unusually hot summer months, August brought us a welcome cooling trend, with only one day reaching 90, compared to 12 in June and 11 more in July. While thunderstorms were few and far between, precipitation was plentiful, with the remnants of Beryl producing a total of 2.67" of rainfall, 2.55" on the 17th.
