While temperatures were still slightly above normal - for the 10th consecutive month - there were no particularly intense or extended periods of heat. The high temperature was a modest (for August) 92 - on the 31st, and the low was an also a modest 54 just 1 day earlier on the 30th. Both max and min temperatures were above normal, again with more contribution from above normal mins, but far less so than in July - the 2nd hottest month ever. As in July, localized showers and thunderstorms, some with heavy rains, were ample. This station had more precipitation than many, though not all, nearby stations. 4.93" fell, with less than half that at both Cumberland's & Frostburg's COOP stations. And ironically, August is the wettest month thus far in 2012, while at Westmont only 2.14" of rain fell in August - it's DRIEST month of 2012 so far. 1.97" fell from localized downpours on the 26th, accounting for nearly 40% of the month's rainfall.
