MONTHLY SUMMARY August was an uneventful weather month with an overall warm, dry weather pattern. The only significant storms affecting the area occurred on the 12th and 21st. On most other dates, storms either missed or broke up, or formed to our east. Some other parts of the state, particularly north-central MD, were very wet, with over 10 inches of rain in some areas. The above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation were a stark contrast to the rest of the summer, which was cool and wet. Contributing mostly to the above normal temps were some warm overnight lows, four of which failed to reach below 70. Interestingly, the monthly extreme dates (10th & 31st) had the warmest and coolest high AND low temperatures. Additional notes/records 10: Record high min of 75 F. Warmest low temperature in August since 1973. 11: Record high min of 72 F. 20: Record high min 70 F. August 2009 tied 2003 for 4th warmest mean minimum temperature on record.
