MONTHLY SUMMARY August 2007 broke a string of dry Augusts, as a series of fronts and MCS-type systems brought much-needed rains. The 5.56" of rain that fell in fact made this the wettest August in 16 years of record, following the driest last year (1.02"). Despite several frontal passages, there was little variation in temperature and little relief from the heat and humidity. 10 days reached 90 or higher, and most other days were in the mid to upper 80s. The notable exception to the warm weather pattern was from the 19th to 23rd. High temperatures were only in the 60s from the 19th-22nd, and during this same stretch, a generous 2.98" rain fell--more than half of the month's total--from showers and thunderstorms tracking along a quasi-stationary front. Additional notes/records 5: Record low max 72 F 8: Record high min 74 F 9: Record high min 71 F 19: Record low max 65 F 20: Record low max 62 F ties Aug. 6, 1993 for lowest August max temperature on record. 21: Daily record 1.06" of rainfall.
