The storms repeatedly followed the same path southeastward along a warm front. A record 2.70" of rain fell in 7 hours. 3.19" was reported in the Frostburg and Pinto areas, with major flooding in Frostburg and again in the Westernport area with roads under water, basements flooded and bridges washed out. 9: Thunder to SE but little rainfall 27: An afternoon thunderstorm, .21" rain fell. 29-31: Cooler with fog and drizzle. Summary: August was very quiet with a lack of rainfall outside of the 6th, when the area was pounded with training thunderstorms that dropped a record 3.19" at Frostburg, 2.70" here and 2.48" in Cumberland. The storms caused quite a bit of flash flooding. It was another unusually cool month, with no 90-degree days again in August. This is the first time since 1958 with no 90-degree days in either July or August. Additional notes/records 6: Daily record rainfall 2.70" smashes previous record of 1.51" in 1995 and is the 2nd heaviest rain day ever in August. 18: Record low max 69 F The mean maximum temperature of 79.3 F ties 1967 for the 4th coolest on record.
