Storm total from March 31-Apr 1 was 1.42". 3: Chilly with blustery conditions and snow showers (no accumulation) 10: Heavy rain overnight and through midday 1.56" fell (new daily record) 11: Two moderate evening thunderstorms 15: Warm high 81 F. 16: A series of intense thunderstorms and heavy rain showers began at 2am. The heavy rains became steady by daybreak with frequent lightning & thunder continuing. Rain finally let up by 10am with 2.29" already falling by then. Partly cloudy during the afternoon, then a very intense thunderstorm at 6pm with .75" of rain in 15 minutes, sharp close lightning, and hail in some locations. Rain showers continued on and off through mid-evening with a total of 3.57" of rain falling by midnight, shattering the daily rainfall record for the entire month of April. Widespread severe flooding occurred throughout the county and rivaled the big floods of November 1985. A river crest of 11.73' at Wills Creek was the 6th highest reading since records commenced in 1905. 17: Turning sharply colder and windy with brief showers of rain and sleet. 20: Warm high 80 F. 21: Heavy rain showers and gusty winds prior to dawn. After a respite, steady rain re- developed over the area this afternoon and evening 1.03" falling by midnight. 22: Cold and very windy with light rain and snow mixed this morning, no snow accumulation. Some scattered tree damage as winds gusted near 50 mph. 25: Warm high 84 F. 26: Steady rain began shortly prior to dawn and continued through early afternoon. Partial clearing and windy the rest of the afternoon. 27: Cold low 30 F with frost & freeze this morning. MONTHLY SUMMARY April 1993 was exceptionally wet, with 7.76" of rainfall ranking it as the 2nd wettest April on record, just missing the record of 7.92" set in 1964. The precipitation total of 16.25" in March and April 1993 sets a new record for back-to-back months. The area suffered one of the worst floods of the 20th century after a 3.60-inch deluge on the 16th- 17th. Temperatures varied quite a bit throughout the month, ranging from a warm 84 to a chilly 28. The monthly mean temperature of 50.7 F was 1 degree F below normal. The snow flakes on the 22nd was one of the later dates on record for the last frozen precipitation. Additional notes/records 10th: Daily record 1.56" of rainfall. 16th: ALL-TIME April daily record 3.57" of rain fell causing major flooding in the area. Water level crested at 11.73' at Wills Creek (6th greatest flood to date). 17th: Trace of sleet/snow. 22nd: Trace of snow. April 1993 was the 2nd wettest April on record with 7.76" of precipitation. This barely misses the record of 7.92" set in April 1964. March-April 1993 set a new precipitation record (16.25") for two consecutive months.
