The month's low temperature of 32 on the 15th and 16th was immediately followed by the month's high temperature of 86 on the 18th. The 17th had a 42 degree diurnal range (high 80, low 38). 20-21: A cut-off low over the Mid-Atlantic states produced bands of heavy rain that tracked from SE to NW over the mountains. Periods of moderate to heavy rain fell from the early morning hours of the 20th to the late morning of the 21st totaling 2.98 inches, accounting for more than half of the month's rain total. These were also the first back-to-back 1+ inch rain days since September 18-19, 2003. 25-26: PM thunderstorms produced about a half inch of rain each day. The high on the 26th reached a warm 83 F. 28-30: The month finished cool and damp with highs only in the 50s and a soaking all-day rain on the 28th measuring 0.83". MONTHLY SUMMARY This was a warm April, one of the warmest on record. The average temperature was 55.1 F, just 0.2 F shy of April 2006, also a very warm April. There were some impressive diurnal temperature ranges during the middle of the month, with the coldest low of 32 on the 16th but a high of 70 that same day, a high of 80 on the 17th and the month's high of 86 on the 18th. The month was very dry until the 20th, when a nearly stationary cut-off low sat to our south, bringing in bands copious Atlantic Moisture that dropped nearly 3 inches (2.98") of rain on the 20th-21st. Thunderstorms on the 25th-26th and another heavy rain event on the 28th pushed the month's rainfall well above normal. There was a trace of sleet observed late on the 3rd, but no measurable snow fell.
